The story told in Another Place Called Home is real. For six years, Susan DuMond lived at the Susquehanna Valley Children’s Home. She arrived at age eleven and aged out at eighteen.

education

Susan holds a BA in Liberal Arts/Theatre from Bennington College in Vermont and a PhD from the University of Oregon in Educational Policy and Management.

career

As a Project Director for Policy Studies in Education, a New York based research firm, Susan evaluated federal and state funded programs, to assess and improve educational effectiveness.

Over the years, as a technical writer and information designer, Susan has written, edited, published and collaborated on more than 25 books. These range from a physician’s memoir, a children’s and teacher’s guide to critical thinking skills, a management guide for the Tom Peters Group, and the original PowerPoint user manual for Microsoft.

published work

Susan’s poetry has appeared in a number of publications, most recently in Jefferson Journal. Published stories include “The Visit,” one of the top ten selections to appear in Fish Anthology 2013 (Fish Publishing, Ireland) and “Lucille’s Shoes,” a finalist in a WOW-WomenOnWriting flash fiction contest.

new writings

In October 2019, Exisle Publishing in New Zealand is releasing an anthology titled Fear and Courage: True stories that reveal the depth of the human experience. “Collected from around the world, the twenty-five true stories showcased here capture the full range of the fear and courage experience,” Renee Hollis, Editor.

I am honored that my story, “Life Interrupted,” was selected for inclusion.
